FSMVU Üsküdar Campus hosted the Children's Literature Translation workshop held between May 11-25. The workshops, which were conducted by Dr. Halise GÜLMUŞ SIRKINTI on behalf of FSMVU Translation and Interpreting (English) department, were attended by students and graduates with English proficiency from different universities and different departments. Prof. Dr. Necdet NEYDİM, one of the important names in children's literature translation, shared the subtleties of children's literature translation with the participants and moderated a translation session with the participants.
Before the workshops, it was aimed to share the selected children's literature products with the participants and enable them to experience the translation of children's literature. In this way, the participants who had the opportunity to work on three different texts during the workshops were introduced to children's literature translation. The challenging aspects of children's literature translation were opened to a discussion where participants shared the translation problems they encountered in their translations and the solutions during the workshop.
In the second session of the workshop, group work was carried out to emphasize the importance of the purpose of the translation workshop, the target audience, and the place of publication. For this purpose, the participants were divided into three groups and translated the same children's literature text for a different purpose and for a different target audience. The products that emerged as a result of the group work were shared with all participants and a constructive criticism environment was created. In this way, it was aimed to make the participants aware of the different translation possibilities of translation for different purposes and the importance of creativity in translating children's literature was emphasized once again.
In the last week of the workshop, a short translation session for children's poetry was carried out and discussions were held on the translations of the participants. At the end of the workshop, the opinions of the participants on the translation of children's literature were questioned through the questionnaire shared with them.
